Terms of Reference

About Project: 

To improve the resilience and income of 2,500 smallholder farmers in Kannaigudem Mandal, Mulugu District, Telangana, through climate-smart initiatives.

Given the context and challenges, it is essential to build the capacity of Chilli farmers and their collectives while fostering climate smart practices in its cultivation and partnerships with key stakeholders. Over the next three years, the project aims to support 2,500 farmers with focus on enhancing soil health, lowering cultivation costs, and adopting eco-friendly practices that ensure high-quality, food-safe produce. Furthermore, the project will boost farmers' incomes by establishing climate-smart agriculture practices, market linkages, ensuring long-term benefits that extend beyond the project duration.


  1. Enhanced Procurement and Marketing Support: Extended procurement and marketing support provided to 500 farmers through the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), resulting in a 10-20% increase in income.
  2. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Demonstrations: Successfully demonstrated IPM practices and facilitated PGS accreditation to 200 farmers, enabling them to achieve a 20% income increase by accessing premium market channels.
  3. Adoption of IPM Practices: 1500 farmers adopted IPM practices, realizing an incremental income increase of 10% to 20%.
  4. Improved Soil Quality and Productivity: Enhanced soil quality led to an increase in chilli productivity by 3 to 5 quintals per farmer, contributing to additional earnings of ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 per farmer for 1000 farmers.
  5. Promotion of community owned Vegetable nurseries: 300 farmers access to quality saplings and high yielding varieties supplied through community owned managed nurseries leading to increased productivity and income

Project Name  : HDFC Parivarthan FDP 

 Reporting to  : Project Manager - Project

Location            : Kannaigudem, Mulugu district

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and finalize eligible chilli farmers in coordination with community leaders and field staff.
  2. Conduct baseline assessments to understand current practices and potential for intervention.
  3. Facilitate farmer enrollment in project activities and maintain farmer-wise records.
  4. Promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices among chilli farmers.
  5. Organize field demonstrations and training sessions on IPM techniques.
  6. Monitor field-level adoption of IPM and provide ongoing technical guidance.
  7. Document outcomes and success stories related to pest control and yield improvement.
  8. Identify land and farmers for fodder cultivation initiatives.
  9. Provide technical support on high-yielding fodder varieties and best practices.
  10. Facilitate access to quality seeds and inputs.
  11. Monitor fodder crop development and ensure optimal utilization.
  12. Support in setting up and managing the Bio-Resource Centre (BRC).
  13. Ensure timely availability of Agri-inputs, tools, and IEC materials through the BRC.
  14. Maintain proper documentation of inventory, usage, and farmer interactions at the BRC.
  15. Conduct awareness sessions about BRC services for community members.
  16. Guide the establishment of vegetable nurseries at community or household levels.
  17. Train farmers on nursery techniques, seedbed preparation, and disease management.
  18. Ensure timely transplanting of seedlings and follow-up on productivity.
  19. Conduct field-level awareness sessions and demonstrations on solar light traps.
  20. Educate farmers on the importance of eco-friendly pest control.
  21. Monitor usage and maintenance of solar traps in the fields.
  22. Identify suitable farmers and fields for introducing solar-powered drip irrigation.
  23. Coordinate with technical partners/vendors for system installation and training.
  24. Ensure proper usage, maintenance, and problem resolution of installed systems.
  25. Collect feedback and data on water-use efficiency and crop productivity improvements.


Reporting & Coordination

  1. Submit weekly and monthly progress reports to the Project Manager.
  2. Collaborate closely with the field team, FPO staff, and local government officials.
  3. Participate in review meetings and provide technical inputs for planning.


The Agri Expert will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring agriculture-related interventions in the project area. The role requires technical support to farmers and coordination with field teams for effective execution of sustainable agricultural practices.

Desired Experience & Skills

  1. Agri or Horticulture Graduate
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in same background work
  3. The candidate should be able to communicate, read and write in English and Telugu
  4. Good communication and excellent reporting skills in local language and, English
  5. Proficient MS office skills & internet
  6. Proven ability to manage Community 


Travelling requirement: This job involves regular travel within the Project area and located at Kannaigudem
